The Trojans dragged it within their walls in triumph — and that night, the hidden Greeks crept out and opened the gates. Troy fell.
Did Troy actually exist?
For centuries, scholars believed Troy was pure myth. Then, in the 1870s, excavations at Hisarlik in modern-day Turkey revealed the ruins of a real ancient city — one that matched the location of Homer’s Troy and showed signs of war and destruction. Most historians now accept that Troy was a real place.
Was there a real Trojan War?
There is genuine evidence that conflict took place at Troy in the Late Bronze Age. The city sat in a strategic position controlling trade routes, making it a likely target.
